Description
As a native marsupial, the koala displays features and behaviours which ensure its survival in the extreme conditions of the Australian outback.
Well suited to a life in the trees, koalas possess a pear-shaped body and a good sense of balance, thick fur for protection, and clawed paws for gripping and climbing. The female koala also has a pouch in which to carry and nurture its young, until the cub is able to cling to its mother’s back.
The coin's reverse depicts a coloured image of an adult koala sitting on a branch of a eucalyptus tree surrounded by gum leaves
