This year’s Gilded Edition from the Australian Lunar Series II depicts the snake, the sixth of the twelve animals associated with the ancient Chinese Lunar Calendar.
In Chinese culture, people born in the Year of the Snake - 1905, 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001 and 2013 - are regarded as intelligent, graceful, independent, analytical and charming.
The coin’s reverse depicts a snake curled around a tree branch which has been gilded in 24-carat gold.
