Description
The Royal Australian Mint released this special coin to commemorate Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with a beautiful 50c coin design.
These coins celebrate the Queen’s seven decades of devotion and service, as well as the indelible mark she has left on Australian numismatics.
In 1947 a young Princess Elizabeth made a speech that was broadcast around the world in celebration of her twenty-first birthday.
In it, the young royal dedicated her life to the service of the Commonwealth:
“I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and the
service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.”
These words would prove to be truly prophetic when, five years later she would ascend the throne as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, starting a historic reign of over seventy years – the longest of any British Monarch.
Historically, coins bear witness to a Monarch’s reign with their royal effigies appearing on the obverse. Her Late Majesty’s seven decades of
service is numismatically symbolised through her six effigies to have appear on Australian coins.
These stunning portraits are the focal point of the reverse design.
With them, the Royal Australian Mint commemorates the momentous Second Elizabethan Era.
- Coin’s reverse features a central design depicting the six effigies of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to have appeared on Australian coin, fanned above the Queen’s royal cypher.
- The central design is framed with lily of the valley, one of the Queen’s favourite flowers and golden wattle, Australia’s national floral emblem.
- Coin’s obverse features the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Obverse with an effigy sculpted by Jody Clark.
