On 16th November 2010 the Prince of Wales announced the engagement of his eldest son Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton. This long-awaited union has sparked interest from across the world.
Not since the seventeenth century has an heir to the British throne married an untitled commoner with no royal ancestors. In modern day this may seem somewhat trivial however it is a strong reminder of the rarity and significance of this momentous occasion.
To commemorate this event, the Royal Australian Mint has produced this official Australian 20c coin celebrating the marriage of HRH Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton on the 29th April 2011.
