Description
The Royal Australian Mint will produce four specially made one dollar, one ounce, silver frosted uncirculated coins for the 2011 Australasian Numismatic Dealers Association Shows.
This exclusive series – Capital Bridges will depict an iconic bridge from each hosting state.
Commonly referred to as the 'Diver' Derrick Bridge, this single-leaf bascule bridge spans over the Port River in Port Adelaide. It was opened for traffic on 3 August 2008. The bridge was the subject of a successful community campaign,
spearheaded by the local RSL and the Portside Messenger newspaper, to name it after Port Adelaide’s World War II hero, Tom 'Diver' Derrick VC, DCM instead of the State Government's unpopular choice of the 'Power Bridge'.
The Royal Australia Mint has a ‘meltdown policy’. Every coin not sold during the ANDA Shows to the public or to dealers are to be melted down.
