Description
In 2014, the Mint has selected the 1814 publication of Matthew Flinders’ historic journal, A Voyage to Terra Australis, as the inspiration for the 2014 releases in this much loved series.
Through his journal, Matthew Flinders recorded his journeys aboard HMAS Investigator and other vessels – including the first ever successful circumnavigation of the continent of Australia; a recount of the wreckage of the Porpoise; and a diary of his six-and-a-half years as a prisoner on the Isle de France (today’s Mauritius).
The coin is presented in a capsule and housed in a leatherette presentation case and printed outer box.
