Description
The Royal Australian Mint first released its State Series in 2006 and has sought to commemorate the anniversary of each Australian state and territory becoming truly independent within the establishment of their own government.
This legal tender coin is a special issue created by the Royal Australian Mint to celebrate 125 years of responsible government in Western Australia.
Western Australia lies in the southern hemisphere, covering an area of more than 2.5 million square kilometres with notable cities including Albany, Broome, Esperance, Kalgoorlie, Margaret River and Perth. Western Australia inherited the English system of government and law when it was colonised in 1829. Between 1850 and 1868 Western Australia was a penal colony and under the Australian Colonies Act (1850), was denied the opportunity to adopt representative and responsible government.
In 1890, Western Australia was granted responsible government when Parliament was formed with a Legislative Assembly of 30 elected members and a Legislative Council of 15 members
