Dick Johnson’s victory at Bathurst in 1981 in his Tru-Blu XD Falcon was a sweet one, backed by the generosity of fans who donated to the cause. The Tru-Blu is one of only a handful of car models to have won both at Bathurst and the Australian Touring Car Championship, and the 1981 victory propelled Johnson’s career. Its popularity peaked off the race track too, with the road-going Tru-Blu model becoming Australia’s top-selling car in 1981.
