Description
The Australian Open, in 2005, dubbed the Grand Slam of Asia/Pacific, celebrates its first 100 years.
With the backing of Tennis Australia, The Perth Mint is producing the "official" 100th Anniversary of the Australian Open 1905-2005 Silver Proof Coin.
The first of the Big Four to take place every year, The Australian Open is the focus of glamour, celebrity and sporting super-stardom.
The coin's reverse, which is design-approved by Tennis Australia, features the curved line of a tennis ball seam. The design incorporates three tennis players from different eras and a coloured representation of Melbourne Park. Also included in the design is the Australian Open logo featuring the words The Grand Slam of Asia / Pacific.
Each coin is housed in a copper-coloured presentation case and illustrated sleeve.
With a very limited mintage of no more than 10,000 coins being produced, this is surely one coin that will be keenly sort after.
The coin is minted from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver and is accompanied with a Numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
