Description
The Perth Mint released the third coin of the five Gold Plated coins featuring designs inspired by the historic figures represented on Australia's original decimal currency notes. Each 2006-dated coin is struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality and is finished in 99.9% gold plating. The coins have a very limited mintage of only 1,000. The coloured reverse of each coin depicts historic figures as they were depicted on decimal currency notes issued between 1966 and 1974. The third coin released features Sir Joseph Banks, 1743 - 1820, famous English botanist, who appeared on the front of the first $5 note; and Caroline Chisholm, 1808 - 1877, 'the emigrant's friend', who appeared on the back of the first $5 note.
