The Perth Mint has struck a commemorative $1 coin for exclusive inclusion in Australia Posts new stamp and coin cover celebrating the Australian pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo 2010. Billed as the biggest expo the world has ever seen, the event takes place in China between 1 May and 31 October. Australia has a significant national presence in the shape of a visually striking pavilion, where engaging exhibits and unique attractions are showcasing Australian innovation, creativity and achievement. Authorised by the Commonwealth Governments Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the aluminium bronze coins reverse links the Shanghai World Expo with a tiger, the Chinese zodiac animal for 2010. Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin is housed in a superbly-illustrated envelope portraying key elements of Australias participation at the Shanghai Expo.
