Description
Black Bart made a gallant figure; he wore silk waistcoats, a red feather in his hat, a gold chainwith a diamond cross hanging from it, a sword in one hand and two pairs of pistols slung overhis shoulders. Unlike other pirates, however, Roberts preferred the taste of tea to rum! The pirate world was shocked when the invincible Black Bart was blasted by grapeshot andkilled while engaging an English man-o’-war in 1722. The crew followed his wishes, wrappedhis body in sailcloth and cast him overboard.
The Perth Mint has issed the coin as legal tender of Tuvalu, the aluminium bronze coin reverse depicts Black Bart against the backdrop of a pirate ship and ‘pieces of eight’ coinage. The design includes a representation of Black Bart’s famous diamond crucifix. A great gift for any budding young collector, it comes on a superb display card.
