Description
Derived from a Greek word meaning ‘tail-devourer’, the ouroboros is an ancient symbol portraying a snake or serpent eating its own tail. Appearing in a variety of ancient cultures and beliefs as a circular or eight shaped symbol, it represented the regenerative cycle of life, enlightenment and renewal.
A horizontal eight-shaped symbol was first used mathematically in the 17th century to denote the concept of the endless and unlimited. A line that never ends, it is commonly known as the infinity symbol. In modern mysticism and popular culture, the ouroboros encapsulates these ancient mythical and mathematical connotations as a celebration of eternity.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 2,000 of the Ouroboros 2022 2oz Silver Antiqued Coloured Coin.
