Description
This coin celebrates James Bond’s association with the Aston Martin DB5. Debuting 60 years ago in 1964’s Goldfinger, the sleek ‘silver birch’ sports car remains synonymous with James Bond.
James Bond is a fictional British Secret Service agent created by former intelligence officer and author Ian Fleming in 1953. His famous character featured in 12 novels and two short story collections before producers Albert R. ‘Cubby’ Broccoli and Harry Saltzman brought Bond to cinema screens for the first time in 1962.
Bond’s arsenal of gadgets and weaponry included an Aston Martin DB5. With front-mounted machine guns, a bullet-proof rear shield, and a passenger-side ejector seat among Q Branch’s many modifications, it became a quintessential Bond symbol.
To popular approval, the sleek ‘silver birch’ sports car made a long-awaited reappearance in 2006’s Casino Royale, the first Bond movie starring Daniel Craig. With the acclaimed actor behind the wheel in sequels Skyfall, Spectre, and No Time To Die, it contributed to some of the franchise’s most memorable moments, cementing its iconic status in movie history forever.
