2008 Orbit and Beyond Series 1961 First Man in Space Silver Coin
Description
The Perth Mint released the second coin in the orbital and beyond coin series. This coin pays tribute to the first man into space - The soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.
Yuri became a national hero by becoming the first human in space and the first to orbit the earth on 12th April 1961.
The coins design portrays a montage of images symbolising Yuri's epic journey. Blasting off from Baikonurin soviet central Asia, he completed a single orbit of the Earth in 108 minutes before re entering the atmosphere and parachuting back to the Soviet Union.
The coin is housed in a display case and accompanied by a Numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
