Description

Honouring one of the unsung heroes of Australia's rich tradition of aviation experimentation and development, this silver coin pays tribute to George Taylor who designed, built and then piloted the first Australian flight. Taylor and his colleagues flew his glider some 29 times in 1909, with the first free flight recorded as covering a distance of 110 yards (100 metres).

This landmark occasion was the very first time an Australian had successfully accomplished free flight in a heavier-than-air vehicle.

The design has a portrait of this key Australian aviation pioneer, this 99.9% pure silver Proof from the Perth Mint also carries a fine portrayal of Taylor's revolutionary glider.

Each coin is housed in a presentation case and come with a numbered certificate of authenticity and is limited to only 5,000 coins being released.
